Packers Brought in Tom Savage and Prince Shembo
Here are a couple more names to add to the list of guys the Green Bay Packers have brought in for pre-draft visits — Pitt quarterback Tom Savage and Notre Dame outside linebacker Prince Shembo.
First of all, great names. Both of these guys. Tom Savage should be quarterbacking the Los Angeles Rams and banging playmates at the Playboy Mansion. Prince Shembo should be conducting an orgy somewhere with his 13 wives.
You’re hearing a lot of quarterback names thrown around. Manziel, Bortles, Carr, etc. You’re not hearing much about Tom Savage, but he’s apparently one of those under-the-radar guys flying up draft boards.
It’s been suggested he could now go as high as the second round, after initially being pegged as a late-round prospect.
Savage started his career at Rutgers, then transferred to Arizona (where he didn’t play) and then transferred to Pitt. All of that transferring means Savage missed two full seasons of football. In his one season at Pitt, he threw for 2,958 yards, 21 TDs and 9 INTs.
The kid has some tools. He’s 6-5, 230. Prototype! He’s got a cannon for an arm and he’s accurate. The downside is he has feet made of lead, as evidenced by his negative-319 career rushing yards.
You know who else had feet made of lead? Leadfoot. And Drew Bledsoe.
The Packers bringing this guy in for a visit is the clearest sign yet that they’re serious about drafting a quarterback.
Shembo, on the other hand, is another late-round guy. He doesn’t have the prototype size (6-1, 253). He also doesn’t have a ton of speed or many pass rush moves. What he does have is strength and he’s a solid tackler.
We should also note that Shembo was investigated for sexual assault. The victim committed suicide, but Shembo’s name was cleared. We would imagine that will follow him around nonetheless.
As a senior, Shembo had 48 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
Monty McMahon is one of the founders of Total Packers. He is probably the most famous graduate of UW-Oshkosh next to Jim Gantner.
