It remains a well-written, well-thought out effort to stop truly shameful pandering to someone who stabbed us in the back and did everything he could to foil the Rodgers MCarthy era and give our most hated rival the hardware. No regrets.

Keep in mind this man threw for 48 tds and 5000 yards in 1984. And he had 44 tds the following year. If he was on the bears or 49ers in that era, those teams would have won 6 super bowls.

The first loss, against the New York Giants, followed a 15-1 season in 2011 and the second, against the 49ers, followed an 8-7-1 campaign.

Let’s restock the cupboard and get this guy the help he needs.

Elway is HoF-worthy to be sure, but he is NOT one of the best to ever play the game let alone history.

A major reason Elway is so revered is that he had back-to-back SB wins towards the very end of his career-he left the best final impression possible. People like to give QBs the majority of the credit for a SB win (and vice versa), but the fact is Elway had lost 3 SBs already and he needed Terrell Davis, Rod Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Ed McCaffrey, and one of the best D’s of thar era to get his rings.
Look at his career stats, they weren’t that good, even for his era-he had five years of good-great production.
I can name at least 15 QBs off the top of my head who are (arguably) better than Elway: Montana, Johnny U, Brady, Starr, P. Manning, Rodgers, Otto Graham, Favre, Marino, Young, Aikman, Bradshaw, Brees, Warner, Tarkenton, Baugh, Nameth, Herber, Staubach, heck, even Jim Kelly.
The point being I can’t name 15 players from any position let alone one, who were even arguably better than Sweetness, Rice, Barry, Brown, the Minister, the Deacon, Montana, Johnny U, Costanzo, and the like.
Elway deserves his HoF status, but he doesn’t belong in the top tier, nor even the second, for my money. THAT is why he is the most-overrated QB of all time (Tebow, in just 2 years, sure gave him a good run though).
