Leslie Frazier Hints That He was Sabotaged
The Minnesota Vikings went out and got themselves a new coach on Wednesday. That guy is Mike Zimmer. Also, on Wednesday, former coach Leslie Frazier gave his first press conference as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator.
Frazier is now on the staff of another NFC North retread — former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith. Interestingly, Smith’s offensive coordinator is Jeff Tedford, Aaron Rodgers’ former head coach at Cal.
But we’re here for Minneosta Vikings dysfunction!
Frazier was saddled with a bunch of turds at the quarterback position in Minnesota. He knew that. We knew that. Everyone knew that.
Apparently, everyone except the Vikings’ higher ups.
The team signed Josh Freeman after he was released by Tampa during the season. They then thrust him into the starting lineup two weeks later, before he really even knew the offense and he was predictably awful. Then they didn’t play him again.
Instead, the team was apparently trying to evaluate first-round bust Christian Ponder and possibly see if they had anything in backup Matt Cassel.
“[W]e made a decision to try to figure out where Christian Ponder was and also take a look at Matt Cassel as well, as we tried to determine and get some questions answered at our quarterback position,” Frazier said. “Josh got caught up in the shuffle of that. It probably wasn’t the fairest situation for him, made it difficult for him, made it difficult for all of us as we were trying to evaluate quarterbacks in an NFL season. That’s not a wise thing. But nothing to do with Josh. He prepared and worked as hard as he could to get on the field. It just didn’t work out.”
That’s a nice PC answer.
It also tells us the directive came down from the top. Yeah sure, I’m the stupid fuck who reached for Christian Ponder in the first round of the draft, but we absolutely, positively need to be sure we play him because one of these days he might just flash something that could save my job. It doesn’t matter if we don’t win. At least not for me…
Rick Spielman is the Queens GM and the dipshit who drafted Ponder. He’s also the dipshit who signed Cassel AND Freeman.
And now we also know that he’s the dipshit who sabotaged his coach by making him play Ponder.
