Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson and Aaron Rodgers’ former Green Bay Packers teammate Charles Woodson says the Packers should shut Rodgers down for the season if they lose this weekend.

That would essentially eliminate the Packers from the playoff race.

“With having a guy that you’re going to pay over $100 million, [if] you’re out of the playoffs, I would shut him down,” Woodson said. “I know Aaron and if he’s healthy, it depends on what his scans are telling him, (but) I know he’s kicking and scratching trying to get back in the game. But having your franchise guy go out there and there is no chance at making the playoffs and you’re not really sure what’s going on with that shoulder (is a mistake).”

Rodgers has suggested he plans to play when he’s healthy, regardless of where the Packers are. We also know that he wants to play this week, but that looks fairly unlikely.

Not that we’d say he’s an expert, but Woodson knows a thing or two about what Rodgers is dealing with. He broke his collarbone twice. The last time was last season, when he missed nine games because of the injury.

Rodgers’ injury isn’t believed be be as severe as Woodson’s was, however.

“(If) you don’t have the confidence or the doctors’ don’t have that confidence in that shoulder that you can go out there and the same thing is not going to happen again, I think you shut him down,” Woodson said. “I went through the same thing last year and I wanted to come back Week 12, 13, 14. But the scans never gave us that confidence, so I didn’t come back until the playoffs. So if they don’t have the confidence in those scans, you shut him down.”

If Rodgers somehow gets cleared to play this week, it will be done on Friday or Saturday. Stay tuned.

Sorry to say I agree with Woodson. Although it would be nice to see Aaron Rodgers activated for the final game of the season and completely decimate the season ruining Bears!

The Bears didn’t ruin the Packers season, Turd Thompson’s horrible decision making with the rest of the roster ruined the Packers season.

If we lose Sunday, I’m torn on this. Having 12 back would at least make the last 2-3 games watchable, but shutting it down would net better draft position, and that sure as hell can’t hurt. If we lose Sunday, I unfortunately think Wood is right.

Shut him down. Even if we were too sneak in, that’s no way we’re going into New Orleans/Carolina or Seattle and coming out with a W, especially with our defense paying as spectacular as it has been.
