It took longer than expected, but receiver Randall Cobb has finally been cleared to run again.
That happened yesterday. However, Cobb still isn’t practicing with the team.
Cobb broke his tibia on October 13 and the Green Bay Packers stowed him on injured reserve with the designation to return. He’s eligible to return to the team this week, but that seems pretty unlikely to happen.
“I don’t have an announcement for you today,” coach Mike McCarthy said when asked about Cobb’s status. “He didn’t practice today. He’s still in the rehab. Same thing (as quarterback Aaron Rodgers). He has not been medically cleared.”
With three games remaining and Cobb not even able to take part in practice, the Packers may ultimately end up losing their leading receiver from 2012 for the season.
Obviously, the injury was more severe than anyone thought initially. The original timetable had Cobb running two weeks ago and possibly practicing and returning this week.
By the time he’s actually able to return, it might not matter anymore.
