Johnathan Franklin’s Season is Over

Rookie running back Johnathan Franklin’s season is over. The Green Bay Packers placed him on injured reserve today.

To fill Franklin’s roster spot, they promoted linebacker Victor Aiyewa from the practice squad. Aiyewa is an undrafted guy from Washington. The Packers signed him on October 15 and he previously spent time with Tampa Bay.

The Franklin move comes as somewhat of a surprise. He suffered a concussion during last Sunday’s game with Minnesota. That’s not usually something that ends a guy’s season.

Franklin will finish the season with 107 yards and a touchdown. Since rushing for 103 yards against Cincinnati, Franklin has pretty much become the forgotten man.

Just about every week, someone on the Packers would say the team needs to get Franklin more involved and then it would never happen. He had just six carries after the Cincinnati game.

You kind of have to wonder how Franklin is ever going to get any carries with the way Eddie Lacy and James Starks are playing.

Well this dooms us. Lacy and Starks will both go down this week and we’ll be left scrambling for someone off the street.

Fear not, we have Kuhn – the 230lb Fullback that likes to juke people instead of just running them the fuck over.

    per GBPG:

“A 6-foot-1, 237-pound first-year player out of the University of Washington, Aiyewa entered the NFL as a non-drafted free agent with Tampa Bay in July 2011 and spent time with the Buccaneers during training camp that season.”

At that size he’ll just scoop up the other team, casting them aside one by one, until he finds the one with the ball.

And to think: a Buc castoff, no less !

I’m telling you…the sound it made when Franklin got hit sounded like someone spiking a large pumpkin on the sidewalk. It was scary.

This is not a big surprise. If it is a serious concussion, then that is something you don’t want to screw with.

With Starks deserving of more playing time, Franklin did not have a great opportunity to get on the field anyway. If he was going to miss a couple games with this, then you might as well shelve him and call it a season.

    See you next year.

He went to IR because of “Fumbleidus” not the concussion.

This kid has talent. The #1 recruited RB outta High School in his day. But his fumble problems from College have followed him to the Pros.

    A smaller, quicker Ryan Grant.

Do anything other than fumble the effen football. Throw an interception, miss a block, drop a pass…just don’t fumble. Don’t ever fumble. I’m serious.

I think you’re absolutely correct Tyko. Franklin had 2 fumbles on 19 carries, that doesn’t cut it in the world of the NFL.

Bingo, Franklin has talent no doubt, the comparison I would make is Chris Ivory, but he has to take care of the football uber alles, as they say. I have confidence the coaching staff will take care of that-Lacy supposedly also had fumbling issues in college and he’s only dropped the rock once (knock on wood) that I can recall and that was his first game.
