Josh Freeman Signed with the Minnesota Vikings
Well, we can put those Josh Freeman to the Green Bay Packers rumors to rest. Freeman signed a one-year deal with the division rival Minnesota Vikings.
Freeman’s deal is worth $3 million.
To say this comes out of left field is a slight understatement. The Vikings have been blathering on and on about how former first-round pick Christian Ponder is their quarterback, even though he’s been awful this season.
Ponder will, in fact, still be listed as No. 1 on the Vikings depth chart, according to a team source. However, he’s currently injured and missed the Vikings last game, which was also probably not coincidentally their only win of the season.
Matt Cassell led the Queens to victory in that game. He or Ponder, depending on his health, will start this week.
So what the hell did these clowns bring in Tampa Bay’s former starter to be their third quarterback for? Well, every indication is they didn’t. They brought him in to start at some point this season.
Freeman probably has more talent than Ponder and Cassell put together. The only question is if he can find some consistency.
He threw for more than 4,000 yards last season, but he’s had problems with turnovers. He threw 17 picks to his 27 touchdowns.
Freeman’s best season came in 2010, when he threw for 3,451 yards, 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions. If the Vikings can get that kind of production out of Freeman, then we just might be in trouble.
