We told you about San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh’s “tough guy” rant about Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, yesterday. Well, when given a chance to respond to Harbaugh’s whining, Packers coach Mike McCarthy took a pass.
“I have no idea what his intent is. I addressed Harbaugh’s comments in the team meeting, and as always we’ll stay above it,” McCarthy said.
In our eyes, that’s kind of classy way of saying, “Jim, you’re a real dick. Now piss off.”
This all stems from Matthews’ late hit on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the altercation that followed. While McCarthy said he didn’t condone the hit, he also stood by his player.
“Playing hard. I think it’s football. I think much is blown out of proportion. Clay played very well in the game. That was one of his couple bad plays.”
Matthews was indeed one of the bright spots for a Packers defense that didn’t have too many of them. He finished with eight tackles, including three for a loss and a sack.
