Five Former Packers Were Claimed on Waivers
The fact that five guys who were on the Green Bay Packers roster last week got claimed on waivers speaks to the talent level of the team… or the lack of talent elsewhere in the NFL.
Like, the New York Jets for example. The Jets added former Packers backup quarterback Graham Harrell last week and they claimed running back Alex Green after his release by the Packers, yesterday.
Tight end D.J. Williams, a fifth-round pick in 2011, also found a new home… on the worst team in the league, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Linebacker Terrell Manning, a fifth-round pick in 2012, is joining the San Diego Chargers. That move affected another former Packer, though. The Chargers released D.J. Smith to make room for Manning. Smith was scooped up by San Diego after the Packers released him early in the offseason.
Linebacker Dezman Moses is headed to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he’ll join another Packers castoff, Frank Zombo. The Green Bay to Kansas City pipeline could be a busy one because former team exec John Dorsey is the GM for the Chiefs.
Center Patrick Lewis, a 2013 undrafted free agent, was also picked up by the Cleveland Browns.
But let’s put this in perspective. Those five teams combined for 22 wins last season.
