Clay Matthews Will be Getting His Too

Clay Matthews

Aaron Rodgers get deal? Clay Matthews get deal, too! Or Clay Matthews eat children!

Don’t worry. Clay Matthews will not be eating any children, at least if you believe the reports. The Green Bay Packers are also hard at work on new deal for their star outside linebacker. And they might as well be because they obviously aren’t hard at work at anything else.

Oh yeah, and Matthews is set to be a free agent after the 2013 season. We certainly don’t need that happening. Once free agency opens, the Packers will just low-ball the shit out of Matthews until he’s forced to sign somewhere else.

Matthews is going to make $3.73 million this season, but this mythical new deal will supposedly put his cap hit in the $8-10 million per season range, according to Tom Silverstein.

When it’s all said and done, our guess is Matthews will be making somewhere in the neighborhood of DeMarcus Ware’s $11.1 million annual salary. The Cowboys gave Ware, another one of the league’s elite pass rushers, $78 million over seven years in 2009.

So basically, once the Packers pay Aaron Rodgers, Matthews and B.J. Raji, everyone else on the roster will be forced to play for the league minimum.

Wow, a mention of Clay Matthews. Great to hear!!!

Everyone should relax until we see the numbers. These contracts can be worked so that the cap doesn’t get hit that bad.

    Hopefully, Shields’ contract is next.

Too much gloom monty, i would rather not have to pay rodgers, matthews, and raji 1/3 of the cap, but do you really not want all 3 back? lock them up now to be able to plan for the next 3 years. There is a ton of young talent on defense that will only get better. Just remember, we will be able to cut AJ Hawk in one more year. We also need to have cap room available to pay Nelson, Cobb, Jones in Bulaga over the next 2-3 years. stay the course.

Some things should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s the offseason. What else do we have to do to stay sane other than make fun of front office and coaching staff?

good point but a positive spin on 1 or 2 posts wouldn’t hurt. You’re going to make us cry, Monty. How’bout some hyped up positive speculation about who TT will draft?

Alright, how about one of these two options? Eddie Lacy or a starting safety in the first round? Tough to call the safety because there are a number of good ones who can start day one, but either pick and we’re all excited about the 2013 Packers again. I keep getting the questions about the team’s first-round pick and keep coming back to those two possibilities. Although, there are some wild scenarios out there that we’ll detail in the coming weeks…

I’m not going to mollycoddle you milksops – this is how the game works.
You pay your blue chippers and fill in the blanks. Every team has to do it. Quityabitchin!

If Ted gets both of these deals done before the draft, he might as well trade every pick possible for future picks and just have a Raiders-style draft with a couple of lower-round camp bodies and not much else

    TT is a butt hole:

BJ RAJI is a blue chip? He seems pretty invisible to me.

No he’s a red and those are hard to find too. You let him go you have a huge void to fill. Think about it a long while before you think you can just toss him and find a replacement. Those type of guys are hard to find.

Ive always been a big fan of this site but lately the negativity is pretty crazy. Monty are you a closet Viking fan? Id swear you actually hate the Packers. Not sure why someone who hates the Packers would have a Packer site.
