You’re Making Us Uncomfortable, Jermichael Finley
So said the Green Bay Packers to their tight end. Jermichael Finley and his $8.25 million salary are making the Packers uncomfortable, according to Tyler Dunne.
That means they will either ask Finley to take a pay cut (which he’s said he won’t do) or try to restructure his deal (which his agent says he’s open to). Of course, the Packers could just release Finley too, but that seems pretty unlikely since they lost both Greg Jennings and Tom Crabtree already this offseason.
One way or another, the Packers need to figure this out now. Finley is due a $3 million roster bonus on Tuesday.
According to one source, the Packers’ brass did express that they’re uncomfortable with the tight end’s $8.25 million salary this year. The two sides have talked. And Monday, Finley’s future with the Packers, at least for 2013, should clear up. Finley is due a roster bonus of $3 million on Tuesday, so the Packers essentially need to make their decision on him today.
The Packers could also just let Finley play out the idiotic deal they signed him to to begin with. Finley doesn’t need to agree to change anything about his contract and could force the Packers’ hand. That would mean they release him or carry on and pay him his $8.25 million.
The problem with that scenario for Finley is, there isn’t much of a market for tight ends in the unlikely event the Packers do release him.
So we’ll see where this standoff between Sheriff Ted and the Jermichael Finley Gang leads us.
