Charles Woodson hasn’t gotten a lot of action since he was released by the Green Bay Packers, but it sounds like that’s about to change. Four teams are reportedly interested in Woodson.
According to Josina Anderson, those teams are the New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. Only one of those teams — Seattle — would fit Woodson’s criteria of being a Super Bowl contender.
Although they may have Super Bowl talent, the Giants have been cutting guys left and right since the season ended. The Jets are a disaster — not to mention a circus — without a clear-cut starting quarterback and the Dolphins are young and probably a year or two away from being a legit playoff team.
So Woodson will probably go to Seattle, right? Not if he envisions himself having a major role in 2013.
The Hawks are loaded at corner with Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner and they also have two quality safeties in Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. Does Charles want to be a nickel back? We doubt it.
There’s a case to be made for the Giants, who’ve had a pattern in recent years of following a bad year with a really good year.
The Dolphins are the dark horse here. Former Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin is their head coach, so there’s already some familiarity, and there are definitely worse things than finishing your career in Miami.
We’re not going to rule out our previously stated favorite for Woodson’s services — the New England Patriots — just yet either. There’s no indication Woodson is in any hurry to make a decision, so there’s still time for more teams to get involved.
