If you’re looking for something to worry about in advance of the Green Bay Packers divisional matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, then here it is — the Packers have been down three receivers at practice this week.
Missing Wednesday’s session were Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Jarrett Boykin.
Nelson and Boykin also missed Tuesday’s practice. Cobb was sent home Wednesday because he has the flu.
The biggest concern of the group is Nelson, who has been battling ankle and hamstring injuries for several weeks. He was on a snap count against Minnesota and was limping when he left the field. Despite that, he had three catches for 51 yards.
Here’s the good news — Mike McCarthy expects Nelson to practice on Thursday and said he also expects the receiving corps to be fine for Saturday’s game.
One of the advantages the Packers offense has over the 49ers defense is speed. A lot of that has to do with two of three guys who didn’t practice today.
We doubt it will come down to this, but if worse comes to worse, the Packers can always dust off Donald Driver.
