Jermichael Finley: I Want an Elite Breakout Year

Jermichael Finley

Let’s get back to business, huh?

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley is back to business. He’s talking a big game, which frankly, he does well.

Despite leading the Packers in drops last season, Finley isn’t short of confidence. Nor should he be. He’s on the cusp of being one of the best tight ends in the league. Although everyone expected him to fulfill the prophecy last season and most people were disappointed when he didn’t, he’s not backing down.

Finley says he’s looking for a real breakout year in 2012.

“I had a breakout year before (in 2009), but an elite breakout year where I take it to a whole other level, that’s what I want,” Finley told FOXSportsWisconsin.com. “But at the end of the day, I want that ring, though. That’s the ultimate goal.

“Around here, we plan on winning multiple rings.”

Of course, Finley is right about the ultimate goal, but his play (or lack thereof) is a major factor in taking the Packers to their ultimate goal. Even though he’s a matchup nightmare, he was frustratingly ineffective last season.

That’s not to say he didn’t have a good year — 55, 767, 8 TDs. Those are excellent numbers for a tight end.

However, this is the guy who portrayed himself as a wide receiver during contract negotiations. It’s the reason he signed a two-year deal after he was franchised. Those aren’t wide receiver numbers, bro!

That being said, we all expect Finley to put up wide receiver numbers at some point. Apparently, so does he, which can’t be construed as a bad thing.

Let’s hope this is the year.

watching practice the past couple of days he was one of the hardest workers and best looking. Hopefully that goes to game time as well.

I want you to have a breakout year, too, Tweetiebird. I just don’t think you will.

Stop poisoning the lockerroom, be more of a team player & understand with the talent we have, you won’t get targeted as much a you like,(i.e., have an attitude more like Donald Driver), and hold on to the damn ball. Prove me wrong.

    GO PACK GO!

I think if he holds on to the ball and shuts his trap A-rod will throw it there all day long, but that’s a long shot for jermichael
