McCarthy Has Had Enough Of Your Questions About Receivers

Driver's production is down.

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy got a little testy today when he was asked about his receivers’ production.

It isn’t as if the Packers receiving corp isn’t producing, it’s just that different guys produce each week. That’s led some people in the media to believe guys who aren’t putting up big numbers might not be happy or something may be wrong.

Veteran Donald Driver hasn’t had as many opportunities as he’s accustomed to, recording just nine receptions, 76 yards and one touchdown through the first five weeks of the season. Naturally, some scribe decided to ask McCarthy what the problem was today.

And, well…

“Donald’s very proud, he’s been a great player, (will) continue to be a great player here, but we have a lot of people, and we’re using them all,” McCarthy said. “That’s the reality of it. Every week it’s somebody else that we’re going to pick at because he didn’t have the numbers he had the week before. Frankly, I think it’s a bunch of garbage.

“Do they want the ball? Yeah. Yeah, they want the ball. They all want the ball. And if they don’t want the ball (voice rising here) then I have a real issue with them. That’s part of playing in this league. But every week to come in here and a guy scores three touchdowns one week and he doesn’t have any the next week, and that’s an issue? I mean, what are we doing here? Those are good, positive things about your team. And I’m not going to continue to sit here and answer this thing every week. Like I said, I think it’s a bunch of garbage.”

You got that?

Of course we knew one of the only things that could derail the Packers this season would be controversy. Namely, people complaining because they weren’t getting the ball enough.

I’m looking at you Jermichael Finley…

Anyway, even though the media is trying to manufacture that controversy, it doesn’t look like the team is buying into it.

MM has probably dealt with this issue internally, and my guess is his presser was the time to take the media to the woodshed. All I know is that I wouldn’t want to be the next Packer receiver that whines to the press about not getting ‘his’ throws.

If anyone doubted keeping Driver & letting some unknowns go earlier this season, then please go watch Donald’s locker room interview re: the subject of receptions. What a great guy, and an absolute asset to the Pack on the field & off.

To paraphrase, Drive says all that matters is that the team gets the win….although he is hoping for a little repeat magic with the acme jersey….says he’s shooting for a 71 yard return this season in the blue.

The media is just trying to create drama where there is none. MM rightly wants no part of it. DD WILL contribute at times this year I gar-un-effin-tee it. He is a warrior.
