Frank Zombo

Zombo will be on the shelf for a while.

Green Bay Packers linebacker [intlink id=”1058″ type=”category”]Frank Zombo[/intlink] broke his scapula in a freak accident before the team’s preseason game Friday night.

The injury all but assures [intlink id=”1335″ type=”category”]Erik Walden[/intlink] will be named the Packers starting right outside linebacker.

Zombo collided with fullback [intlink id=”251″ type=”category”]John Kuhn[/intlink] during warmups, causing the injury. He ended up playing in the game because the Packers didn’t know the severity of the injury.

Zombo is expected to miss a significant amount of time, according to coach [intlink id=”67″ type=”category”]Mike McCarthy[/intlink]. He will not require surgery, however.

Walden and Zombo were competing for the starting right outside linebacker job. Zombo appeared to have the early lead, but Walden has since gained the upper hand.

With Zombo out for an extended period, it looks like the only thing that will keep Walden from starting in week one is a significant injury of his own.
