Green Bay Packers defensive back [intlink id=”442″ type=”category”]Brandon Underwood[/intlink] didn’t have anything to say after today’s court appearance, but his wife Brandie sure did.
Underwood is facing a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge stemming from an incident in June where he allegedly ripped a necklace off his wife’s neck and then dragged her from his vehicle. All signs point to the couple being drunk at the time of the incident.
Brandie, who filed for divorce in May, but says the couple is working on repairing their relationship and still lives together, gave a different account of things Wednesday.
“I told police I did not want them to arrest him. He’s never harmed me in any way, shape or form” she said of the alleged incident on June 16 the night the Packers were awarded their Super Bowl rings in a ceremony at Lambeau Field.
State law requires officers to make arrests for a domestic abuse report if there is reasonable grounds to believe abuse has occurred and if the officer believes continued abuse against the victim is likely.
“The last thing I wanted was for him to get in trouble,” Brandie Underwood said while fighting back tears.
Two things are probably going on here.
The couple probably had too much to drink on the night of the incident and emotions got out of control, as I’m sure most of us can relate to. Afterward, Brandie probably realized she stands a good chance of losing her meal ticket if Brandon gets in trouble.
Underwood’s roster spot could be in serious jeopardy regardless of what happens with his disorderly conduct case.
