We love tales of [intlink id=”35″ type=”category”]Minnesota Vikings[/intlink] woe almost as much as we love the Green Bay Packers, so it’s literally impossible for us not to tell you about Pro Football Talk’s list of the team’s four worst moments since 1987, which is the last time there was a work stoppage.
PFT previously looked at the Packers’ four worst moments. The Vikings’ list of failure and ineptitude is much longer, though.
As Mike Florio puts it, the list includes an “honorable mention list that, frankly, could have gone on for hours.”
Every other team up to this point only had four moments. The Vikings’ list consists of five.
5. 1987 NFC Championship game (17-10 loss to the Washington Redskins, running back Darrin Nelson drops a pass at the goal line with 56 seconds remaining)
4. 2000 NFC Championship game (41-0 loss to the New York Giants)
3. 2009 NFC Championship game (31-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints, [intlink id=”41″ type=”category”]Brett Favre[/intlink] throws an interception in the fourth quarter, Saints win on a field goal in overtime)
2. Herschel Walker trade (Vikings traded eight draft picks and four players to the Dallas Cowboys for Walker and four draft picks)
1. 1998 NFC Championship game (30-27 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Vikings were 15-1, kicker Gary Anderson, who had made 44 straight field goals, misses a 38-yarder in regulation, Atlanta wins in overtime)
