Francois, Gordy Are Your Newest Packers
Francois, a linebacker, was on the Packers’ roster for four games earlier this season. He was originally promoted from the practice squad prior to week six, cut after week nine and then re-signed to the practice squad. He recorded one tackle.
Gordy, a cornerback, is a rookie undrafted free agent who spent the past 10 weeks on the Packers’ practice squad.
Francois and Gordy have been replaced on the Packers’ practice squad by wide receiver Terrance Smith and linebacker/defensive end Curtis Young. Smith played his college ball at South Carolina State. Young played at Cincinnati. Both players are rookies.
The Packers could have looked at signing a player from the UFL, which recently completed their second season. However, the UFL requires any team who signs a player from the upstart league to pay a $150,000 transfer fee.
So far, NFL teams have balked at signing any UFL players because of the fee.
