Al Harris Could Return Next Week
Brad Biggs is reporting that Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris could begin practicing next week.
Harris has been on the PUP list since the beginning of training camp, while he continues to rehabilitate a torn ACL.
According to a league source, Harris could be cleared to return to practice as soon as Monday. He’d likely begin with light positional drills and be brought along slowly. Whether or not he could be ready for the season opener Sept. 12 remains in question, but if the Packers elevate him from the PUP list, it’s a good sign that they believe Harris will be in game action sooner rather than later.
That’s good news for a Packers defense that looked less than spectacular in their preseason-opening loss to the Cleveland Browns.
The Packers current cornerback lineup includes starters Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson, nickel back Brandon Underwood, and dime back Pat Lee. Jarrett Bush, Sam Shields and D.J. Clark are also in the mix.
It still looks doubtful Harris will get much game action before the regular season, but having him available to play a role in the Packers defense can only help.
