The Green Bay Packers may expand Lambeau Field.
The Packers will hold focus groups in Green Bay and Milwaukee to gather “thoughts and opinions on possible new seating opportunities at an expanded Lambeau Field.”
“It’s a dialogue we enjoy having every year on various topics and this year it’s that topic,” Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey said. “Before we redeveloped Lambeau Field, a lot of the ideas that went into the new Lambeau Field came from those surveys.”
What, exactly, the Packers are considering is unclear, but it has been suggested the team may reconfigure the seating inside Lambeau to add more people. That’s potentially good news for anyone who’s on the season ticket waiting list.
Lambeau Field currently holds 72,928 people. There are more than 81,000 people on the season ticket waiting list.
Of course, it’s possible nothing will come out of the focus groups. The Packers delayed a $25 million expansion project in October 2008 and the NFL’s uncertain labor situation — the league’s agreement with the players expires after the 2010 season — will play a major role in any financial decisions moving forward.
