Lowly Bears Apologize To Fans In Full-Page Ad
Ah, how the mighty have fallen.
Picked by some in the preseason to win the Super Bowl, the Chicago Bears instead struggled to a 7-9 record and failed to make the playoffs for the third season in a row. In response, the team took out a full-page ad in two of Chicago’s papers Monday apologizing to fans and thanking them for sticking with the franchise.
“In a season where we did not perform at our best, we are further humbled by the fact that our fans stepped up and did their part,” the ad pathetically states. “You played your role in the team perfectly.”
It’s nearly the same message coach Lovie Smith was spouting after the team’s 37-23 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
“I think change is necessary from top to bottom with everybody who had anything to do with where we are right now,” Smith said about what needs to happen in the coming days. “I think all of us didn’t do as good a job as we needed to. As a head football coach, I didn’t do as good a job as I need to and (the list of coaches responsible) goes down.”

Give me a break. I don’t know if firing Smith is the answer to Chicago’s problems, but it’s definitely time for team managers to put their money where their mouth is and make some changes to avoid similar groveling next year.
